Writing this as the show is going on. Thanks to Bart Given for coming on Offsides with Tyler King this afternoon on CFRC. We’ll have a link to the interview over the weekend.
For those who missed the Nova Scotia episode of Out There with Melissa DiMarco it’s on tonight at 10pm. Yes, I double checked and that’s when it’s on. New episode at 10:30pm on CITY TV, but one with Bubbles is at 10. Thanks to Melissa for doing the interview last week, and putting a link up to it on her Facebook group.
Back to the show.
Too many different topics, so I pull out the ‘Potpourri’ title from Jeopardy for this post.
New CD in the mail so that will be on Friday Night. Some rock from Halifax with the band ‘Brite Vu’. And some more new stuff.
Haven’t decided when I’ll do the ‘official’ 2 year anniversary show. It was middle of May so it will air sometime this month. 🙂
Good luck to fellow blogger Bart Given and his family on the move to Vancouver.
Hasn’t the statute of limitations run out on the ‘glass desk’ joke? LOL. [For non-sports fans don’t worry it would take a while to explain it anyway.]
Jody started working in radio so really is a full circle going back. Good for Bart since it will be easier for him to baseball being on West Coast time. Jays game at 4pm for example.
Congrats to Chris Zelkovich on the scoop. Tyler had him as a guest on ‘Offsides’ last year so that always get him bonus points if you’re part of a CFRC show.
If everything goes according to plan Bart will be a guest on Offsides this Friday at 4pm EST on CFRC. So tune in then, or watch Out of Left Field for the interview once it’s posted.
Saw Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers concert last night with my Mom. Very good and a packed house at the Grand Theatre in Kingston. Leaving the concert we were behind a car who apparently drove from Belleville for the show.
Here is the website for the band, wrapping up the Ontario part of their tour this month. They mentioned recording songs for a new CD, so I’ll keep my eye out for that.
That’s it for now. Covered a lot. 🙂
Sportsnet finally made a good decision, or the website anyway. Bart Given, from Inside the Majors is now blogging for Sportsnet.ca. More of a mini-blog compared to how in depth he can go at his site. But it’s a nice way to get traffic and be read.
But Sportsnet can still do thing that make you shake your head and/or laugh. As you see from the screenshot.
Some woman named Coco apparently has to do with sports. If you can’t see it under her picture it says : “Our cups overfloweth with Coco in today’s gallery.”
Good to see Bart on that site, but of all things to see on his first post? And with the amount of pictures on the internet, that is not going to attract anyone to that site. Plus “overfloweth” isn’t even a word. To be picky about.
From Jody Vance to Coco’s Cups? Things have changed at the net.
Thanks to Gary Kelly for the comment on the Twitter blog post. He was wondering if Faye Grim was really Toni Marie. It is easy to fake people’s identity on Twitter, but it is her. 🙂
Another account to add to the list. Bart Given from the Inside The Majors blog is on Twitter. Right now he has two followers. So we’ll try to increase that. At least past 10.
Last week did show what happens online. Sometimes one post can start a snowball effect. My one post on Inside the Majors was read by Neate Sager on Out of Left Field. Neate posted about it, which then got picked up by some Jays sites. Now it’s spread to baseball message boards. Latest I found is someone from Toronto who works for Google posting about it on Twitter.
Of course a blog by someone with a lot of baseball knowledge would’ve been noticed anyway. But we’ll ignore that. 🙂
Friday night I’ll have the interview with Melanie Samson I did recently. Then I’ll finally have caught up with the interviews I taped over the last month. I’ll also be playing her CD during the show.
U.S. is out of the World Baseball Classic. And it’s hardly a story. After the game last night I go to ESPN.com. It’s not the main story, not even highlighted as a big story. It was the 4th one down on the side of the page. Even now it’s behind a story about A-Rod’s rehab on his hip. Jeez, there’s a sign how low on the totem pole the WBC is.
Mid week update with a new sports blog. One written by someone with real experience on his subject, baseball.
Bart Given was in the front office for the Blue Jays for the last few years, recently as an Assistant GM. Unlike a lot of sports blogs that are on the landscape, this one has real info and knowledge. Player contracts and things such as arbitration are amazingly complex. But it’s great to have someone explain items that go by quickly on sports news. I see something like this:
March 2 – First date to renew contracts. Ten-day renewal period ends on March 11.
Sounds straightforward but it really only describes a certain amount of players. Which I learned from the blog. I won’t go into the details, you have to read it for yourself.
Also going to be opinion pieces. Today Bart talked about Chipper Jones’ comments putting down the city of Toronto. How there’s nothing to do in Toronto. City of 3 million and there’s nothing to do? Of course this from a guy named Larry who calls himself CHIPPER. Take that with a grain of salt.
I emailed Bart about the blog, since it’s very good and I wanted to see if I could mention it here. He said it’s in the “soft launch” phase. So this looks like the first place to mention the blog online. So you can be one of the early readers.
It’s in the early stage but everything is in working order. There’s a Poll about Chipper’s comments right now. You can also leave a comment or email him with your thoughts. Here is the description Bart put up on the blog himself. Feel free to drop him a line. Encourage a new blogger to cyberspace. 🙂
Why another MLB Blog? As a former VP, Baseball Operations & Assistant General Manager of a MLB Club, I felt I could provide valuable insight to fans who crave the “inside” information about what happens inside the Front Office. The “How’s”, “When’s” and most importantly “Why’s” of the decisions made daily by your favorite team.
There are plenty of sites discussing stats, fantasy, rumors and news with great aplomb. My goal for Inside The Majors is to complement their opinions with the knowledge and perspective of someone who has been there.
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment with suggestions for the site. I want it to evolve in a way that can enrich your experience of watching and discussing MLB baseball.
Cheers, Bart Given
